Caralluma fimbriata is a kind of succulent plant native or cultivated in India. It has been eaten by Indian aborigines as pickles from ancient times or as a vegetable with other spices. It is known to be a natural appetite suppressant in India and has an effect of increasing endurance.
The key phytochemical constituents of C. fimbriata are pregnane glycosides, flavone glycosides, megastigmane glycosides, and saponins.
C. fimbriata is found to have anti-oxidant activity. In recent studies, fresh leaf extract of C. fimbriata has been reported to reduce blood glucose in normal and diabetic rabbits.
